Friday, February 26th, 2010

Tom Yum Thai 685 Cary Towne Boulevard Village Square Shopping Center, Cary Website Entrees: $5.95–$18.95 Tom Yum Thai is an attractive, cozy, modern restaurant near the Cary Towne Center mall and Galaxy Cinema. The room is a mix of booth and tables, with burgundy and muted green walls and gold accents. Our waiter was very [...]

Les Caves Joseph Bordeaux Rouge 2007—Wine Review

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Les Caves Joseph Bordeaux Rouge 2007 France This Bordeaux smells peppery and tingles my nose. It is dry and tart, with a berry flavor of deep, dark cherries. There’s an extra layer to it that’s like molasses but not sweet  . . . rum notes? The wine is very drinkable, especially the more you drink [...]

Disneyworld 2.5.10–2.8.10—Travelogue (and new photo website)

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Two weeks ago, Ben and I took a vacation to the Disneyworld complex. His sister, Erin, had been chomping at the bit to go back since her honeymoon trip and asked if Ben and I would like to come along with her and her husband, Travis. Being a California girl who used to go to [...]

Rootstock Syrah 2007–Wine Review

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Rootstock Syrah 2007 North Coast, CA Smell: Oak, touch of cinnamon, dash of plum. Taste: A well-rounded wine with minimal fruit, though there is that bit of plum. There’s also a mellow presence of spices with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and some light vanilla. This wine is fine and dandy but nothing special.

Southern Fast Food Series #2: Chick-fil-A–Restaurant Review

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Chick-fil-A 7836 Leonardo Drive Renaissance Village, Durham Website Sandwiches: $2.89-$4.25 One chicken club combo with a slice of lemon pie: $9.53 I’ll admit it right now: this was not the first time I’d been to a Chick-fil-A. I will also admit that I honestly thought the restaurant was spelled Chik-fil-A, which exposes that I did [...]

Villa Sonia Pinot Grigio Piave 2008–Wine Review

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Wine: Villa Sonia Pinot Grigio Piave 2008 Region: Trevino, Italy The Villa Sonia Pinot Grigio Piave 2008 has very little color, which fits as it also has very little body.  There was no smell I could discern. The tanginess hits you first, followed by a very light melon flavor, perhaps casaba. As the tanginess comes [...]

Trader Joe’s Reserve Syrah 2006 — Wine Review

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Wine: Trader Joe’s Reserve Syrah 2006 Region:  Mendocino County, California I’ve recently become suspicious of wines labeled reserve or vintner’s selection because I haven’t found that I like them any more than ones without a fancy classification in their name.  So it was with trepidation that I tried this Trader Joe’s wine, even more so [...]

El Rodeo — South Square (Durham)

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Apologies for the lack of pictures. Those I had taken for the next few blogs were casualties of the great Hard Drive Failure of February 2010. This is especially sad in the case of this review, as that plate of camarones de chipotle looked quite yummy. El Rodeo 4215 University Drive 3404 Westgate Drive South [...]
